Sports Match Award
Earlier this year we successfully applied for a Sports Match grant to match £ for £ sponsorship monies from our 3 community sponsors: Bowden Land, Jigsaw Systems and Grogan Cullings. This grant money is enabling us to create and sustain 20 after schools clubs in both primary and secondary inner city schools, deliver refresher coaching and taster sessions and also gives those teachers the opportunity to undertake Tag or Contact Rugby Coaching qualifications so as to carry on our work after we have completed our initial period in the schools.
Schools and Colleges
Our aim is to promote the game within schools and other rugby clubs and to motivate and inspire Nottingham's young people to take part in sport and stay involved. Our work in schools is our main focus, and we work with all age groups from primary schools through to secondary schools and colleges. The Development Team deliver everything from non-contact (Tag), Contact Rugby, either within the normal school day as part of the curriculum, or, after the school day has finished i.e. after school clubs.
If we're not coaching in your school and you would like us to, talk to your teacher and let us know.
Girls' Tag Rugby
New this year is our Under 14's girls club here at NRFC. It's open to all girls under 14, and runs every Sunday from 10.30 - 11.30 at Ireland Avenue. Previous experience of playing rugby is not required, as it's based on developing basic core skills such as handling, passing and kicking, together with learning and playing Tag (non-contact) Rugby. The club is run by the Development Team, which will ensure it'll be great fun. The idea is to turn up and have a go, you never know, you might just like it!
Because of the bad weather and the resultant state of the pitches, we have postponed the girls club for a few weeks. The club will restart again on Sunday 12th March.
Half Term Rugby Camp
We will again be running a rugby camp over the Summer holidays here. The dates are:
Monday 31st July - Friday 4th August
Monday 21st August - Friday 25th August
Full details and an aplication form will be available soon.
Corporate Tag Rugby
Another exciting area we're developing is the formation of a Corporate Tag Rugby league for companies in the Nottingham area - this would include regular coaching and practice sessions, leading to a festival towards the end of March. It's a very easy game to learn, keeps you fit and is a great way to encourage team building within the work place.
The Development Team:
Youth Development Officer - Craig Hammond
Community Rugby Manager - John Dainton
Coaches: Nigel Hall, Alex Loney, Tim Molenaar
If you would like to discuss coaching within your school or are interested in joining the Corporate Tag Rugby league, please call John Dainton either at the club, or email:
